I will be completely honest with you, I have never enjoyed being beach or poolside much, unless I am fully clothed, with no intention of going in the water or touching the sand – you know, like maybe I am having a poolside dinner or drinks on the beach in the evening. Throughout the day however, I have simply never been able to master a really good beach or poolside look. For me, a good beach or poolside look is one that I look and feel good wearing, but that it is very clearly functional or appropriate for the occasion. To me that means a dress, a kaftan or a good linen shirt that is easy to throw on and take off, covers my body without me feeling as though I am trying to hide when I am not feeling super confident, but still adds all the style and glamour I need to feel just as good as I would on dry land.
Over the past five years I have been doing at least one group holiday a year and we hang out by the pool a lot – often more than I care to. What I have come to realise is, that for me to really look and feel good on the beach or by the pool throughout the day, I need to give my beachwear just as much thought and attention as I would the dress I might wear for dinner. The reason being is, I am not someone who feels comfortable enough to prance about in a bikini freely and my swimming costumes are 100% basic. Right now all I need to have my swimming costume do is suck me in, give me shape and support my boobs. So it’s how I choose to pimp my basic costume, whether it be with a kaftan, a wrap skirt, a white linen shirt or even a belt or headband and these become the main event these days, not so much my swimwear. For now though, I’m OK with that, because if there’s one thing I love when I am holidaying, it’s lots of bright and bold prints, voluminous floaty dresses and lots and lots of accessories.
I hope you manage to get some inspo for your hols x
